FOX 26 News Brief for Monday, October 15, 2018

The Houston ISD School Board is apologizing after swapping interim superintendents. Last week, the board voted to replace Dr. Grenita Lathan with former HISD superintendent Dr. Abe Saavedra. It passed 5 to 4 and sparked uproar. Today, trustees reinstated Dr. Lathan as interim superintendent.

The Texas Council on Family Violence released its annual report today, and found 29 women were killed by their partner in Harris County last year. The group also announced it's partnering with the Houston Astros Foundation.

Officials fear the worst for two missing boys last seen in the Gulf. The 11-year-old and 16-year-old went into the water at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, near 17th Street in Galveston. Coast Guard and Beach Patrol searched most of the night and resumed this morning.

Crosby ISD leaders are meeting again tonight to discuss their more than $5 million budget shortfall. Last week, the board announced the district was in a financial emergency and that there will be at least 18 layoffs.

It finally feels like fall outside! Houstonians are enjoying cooler temperatures. The weather is expected to be even cooler tomorrow.
