Finding success after serving time in prison

There were between 12.3 and 13.9 million former felons in the U.S. as of 2008, according to the Center for Economic and Policy Research. That is approximately one in 15 working-age adults with more than 90 percent of them men.

The research also estimates that because a prison record reduces a former offender's chances of finding employment, the U.S. loses between $57 billion and $65 billion each year in economic output.
