Cypress family's home destroyed in fire days before Christmas

It's been one week since a Sunday afternoon fire destroyed a family’s home in Cypress.

Eric and Crystal Adams told FOX 26 this holiday season they are grateful to be alive.

"Originally, I was on a Zoom call, came downstairs to make myself lunch, never smelt anything, never heard anything, until that bang at my door, my angel came," said Eric Adams.

Caught on the family’ ring camera – a knock from a neighbor who was outside, is what saved Eric Adams life after a fire destroyed his home and nearly everything inside.

"I thought he got hurt, I thought he was calling for help," said Eric Adams, "Apparently it started from the garage door opener and I had a lot of old baby clothes in here, furniture, family momentous, and I ran out, seen my garage was cracked halfway and I saw one cardboard box on fire, and it crumbled in my hands."

Eric Adams said the fire destroyed the family home right before the holidays.

"It shot up, broke windows, it broke this over here. They had to break down walls," Eric said. "The smoke damage in our home is so bad that most of the clothes are not recoverable; pillows blankets, socks, towels and, basically, we are starting our life from scratch again."

Now, four years of special memories are gone, something that makes Crystal Adams emotional when she thinks about their daughter, 3-year-old Elizabeth.

"This is the house she took her first steps in, where she started speaking, where she started moving around, and it brings back so many good memories, knowing that this is where she grew up and now its a door that’s shut," said Crystal.

However, this family’s faith is what keeps them hopeful, especially during this holiday season.

"Trying to recover, keeping out hope, and faith in the lord, and I’m still shaken up about it," Crystal said "This is my Christmas gift that they are alive."

The family says they are living with loved ones, but they are asking for help or even a prayer from the community, to get them back on their feet.
