HOUSTON (FOX 26) - The locally-owned business is called Farm Dirt. When we first visited, it had outgrown its lot in 5th ward, casting off a nasty smell from discarded produce used in composting the mulch.
As delivery trucks brought in Crates of discarded onions and lettuce the smell kept getting worse.
After we visited the area, the city cited the Farm Dirt for violating city ordinances.
To avoid daily penalties, Farm Dirt stopped production and stepped up efforts to reduce the mulch piles.
In the three weeks since we first visited, management had done a lot of work.
And the smell was much better...
