Collins Elementary student took gun to school, Alief ISD says
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - A student at Collins Elementary was taken into custody by Alief police after taking a gun to school on Thursday, Alief ISD says.
According to the district, the student showed the gun to classmates and those students told their teacher who alerted administration. Alief police took the weapon and took the student into custody.
Alief ISD says the student is being disciplined according to district policy and has been removed from campus.
Alief ISD asks parents to speak with their children about school safety. "As we are committed in partnering with you in providing a safe environment for our students, we are encouraging parents and guardians to please be aware of what your child is bringing to and from school in his or her backpack. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about the importance of school safety and that if they see something, to say something."
