3 suspects arrested after officer-involved shooting in southeast Houston
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Three robbery suspects were not injured when a Houston police officer discharged his duty weapon at the vehicle the were driving on Monday morning, the Houston Police Department says.
The incident is under investigation by HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division, as is customary when an HPD officer discharges his duty weapon in the city limits, the department says.
According to investigators, officers from the HPD Clear Lake Patrol Division responded to a call from a citizen following a suspect driving a vehicle reportedly stolen on Saturday. Police say an officer saw the vehicle at a gas station and gave the suspect verbal commands to exit the vehicle. Police say the suspect accelerated in reverse and backed into a driveway in the 11000 block of Sabo, and the officer used his patrol vehicle to block the suspect and prevent him from leaving.
According to investigators, the suspect accelerated toward the officer and fearing for his life and believing he was about to be struck by the vehicle, the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect vehicle's tires.
Police say the suspect vehicle fled the scene, striking the patrol car and citizens' vehicles, but three suspects were taken into custody after a pursuit.
The Houston Police Department says the three suspect and the officer were not injured.
The identities of the three male suspects have not been released pending further investigation.
