Today marks the first day of the 2023 hurricane season and Tropical Depression Two has formed in the NE Gulf with 35 mph winds. It is expected to drop south toward Cuba this weekend and not have any impacts on Texas. Locally. it will be about the heat the next few days with widespread 90s and only isolated rain. The threat for heavy rain and storms will become more widespread early next week as the weather pattern switches back to a more unsettled one. Air Quality Alert has been extended through Friday evening.

On this start of Hurricane Season, our local weather couldn't possibly be more quiet. With warm temps and good sunshine, we have another air quality alert for ozone. Today through Saturday, an isolated shower or storm is possible but unlikely mainly in the afternoon with a brief increase in cloud cover. Storms will approach from the northwest overnight Saturday into Sunday, and much of next week features a rainy pattern with on and off storms. An area in the eastern gulf now has medium chances for development with Hurricane Hunters set to investigate it further today. The first name on the list is Arlene, this storm poses no threats to southeast Texas.

Today is not only the first day of hurricane season, but also the start of what is known as "meteorological summer" - the three warmest months of the year. Look for very warm afternoons through Saturday with highs in the low 90s and slim rain chances. Beginning Sunday through most of next week, low pressure moves in and should keep our weather pretty unsettled with a daily chance for storms.

Air quality alert for the Houston area has also been extended until Thursday evening. Hotter and drier weather pattern returns for a few days which will mean temperatures in the low 90s Thursday through Saturday with very limited rain. That will be a great time to squeeze in some pool or park time. But make sure to wear sunscreen with a high UV index likely. Upper low returns early next week which will mean a return to more storms Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Today will be very similar to the past few days where some will see some afternoon scattered showers and storms, a few of which may be on the feisty side. Closing out the work week and heading into the weekend hot and mostly dry, then next week things look to take a turn to the soggy side. Hurricane Season begins tomorrow, and our daily tropical briefings have resumed. One area is being monitored with low chances for development in the eastern gulf, with no impacts to us but it will bring heavy rain to the Florida peninsula throughout the weekend.

Hurricane season begins tomorrow and it's also the time of year when we really heat up. Look for highs in the upper 80s and low 90s through Saturday with the best chance for pop-up storms this afternoon. Next week looks bumpy with an area of low pressure bringing a daily round of storms from Sunday through at least Tuesday.

Our Ozone Action Day is back for Wednesday with another Air Quality Alert being issued for Harris, Brazoria & Galveston counties. That means air quality will be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups category and you may want to reduce your amount of time outdoors if you have respiratory issues. Otherwise, look for spotty rain and storms through early tonight, gradually fading. Storms may produce some very heavy rain in a short period of time along with some small hail & gusty winds. Lightning is also a hazard. So remember when thunder roars, head indoors! Storms are still possible Wednesday PM but will be less widespread. The trend for Thursday and Friday will be more heat and less rain as high pressure tries to build in. This will be short-lived though as storm chances creep back up again Sunday through next Tuesday.

After a round of scattered Memorial Day showers and storms, we'll have a similar day today with mainly midday and afternoon storms and highs in the upper 80s.
