The Woodlands martial arts teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault of student

A martial arts instructor in The Woodlands and former substitute teacher at Conroe Independent School District was arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of a juvenile student, officials report.

The backstory:

On Friday evening, 32-year-old Stephen Zarruk was arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, after being accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile student during individual training sessions.

Zarruk is a martial arts instructor at The Woodlands Karate & MMA. He is also a former substitute teacher and contract physical education instructor at Conroe ISD.

An arrest warrant was issued for Zarruk as part of an investigation of sexual abuse involving a juvenile student, officials say.

He has been placed in custody at Montgomery County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Stephen Zarruk worked as a part-time substitute in Conroe ISD beginning in the fall of 2021. As with all potential employees, a background check was done and came back clear. Upon learning of this upsetting matter, steps were taken to begin the termination process. At this time, we have no indication anything inappropriate occurred on any Conroe ISD campus.  We encourage anyone with information to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
