A young Houston mother is home with family as she recovers from a gunshot to the face.

The shooting was reported on Monday night. Shelby Turman says she was home with her boyfriend, who she alleges had been drinking and messing with their gun.

Turman tells FOX 26 News that she does not remember being shot, but recalls coming in and out of consciousness as she was taken by LifeFlight medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center.

The bullet entered beneath her right eye and exited the back of her neck, behind her right ear.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said on Friday that the case is still under investigation. Investigators would not comment on whether the boyfriend is a suspect or person of interest in the investigation.

Turman, 25, is a mother of three children. They are currently in the care of relatives as Turman recovers. Donna Howard, Turman's mother, says she did not learn about her daughter's shooting until the Tuesday morning. Howard arrived at the hospital to find her daughter on life support.

Suffering from paralysis on the right side of her face and loss of hearing in her right ear, Turman says she will need to undergo several additional surgeries and therapy sessions for her nerves and vision. Despite all of this, she believes she can make a strong recovery.
