Woman dead, man injured after 18-wheeler crashes into Harris Co. home

Police say a woman died and a man was injured when a stolen 18-wheeler crashed into a home in north Harris County.

According to HPD, the incident began around 10:40 p.m. Monday when a trucking company reported that an 18-wheeler had been stolen.

The company was able to track the 18-wheeler. After midnight, police say, officers located the 18-wheeler with a suspect still inside and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

Authorities say there was brief pursuit. According to HPD, the suspect traveled down Lincoln towards the intersection at McKinley and then jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Police say the 18-wheeler kept going down Lincoln and crashed into a home.

Four adults were reportedly inside of the home, and two of them were injured in the crash. A woman, 50, died at the scene. Authorities say a man, 54, was trapped underneath the gas tank of the truck and sustained major injuries. He was last reported to be in stable condition.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the suspect as 39-year-old Erik Black. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries and is now in the Harris County Jail.

Sean Teare, Chief of the Harris County District Attorney's Office Vehicular Crimes Division, says the suspect is being charged with felony murder and reckless aggravated assault.
