Why does this fence keep falling?
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - When a Houston Couple bought their home, they never imagined they'd need to replace their back yard fence every few years.
They say the drainage ditch just behind their fence is to blame.
Travis and Doreen Yates say this is the third time they've had to replace their fence in 14 years...far more than usual.
A drain sits directly behind the part of the fence that leans the most. Neighborhood run off Water goes into that drain and then into the ditch. That ditch eventually empties into Buffalo Bayou.
Houston City Council Member Greg Travis has looked at the situation and said Harris County Flood Control District maintains the ditch, not the City of Houston. He said he will work with the Yates to find a solution.
The Yates say they don't expect the city or county to pay for a new 265 ft. fence. But before they spend any money on it, they want the drainage issue corrected.
