School staff save Utah teen who collapsed during gym class

Surveillance video captured the moment a Utah teenager collapsed during gym class and was rescued by school staff.

Skyler Nelson, 14, was seen on a surveillance camera falling face first inside the West Jordan Middle School gymnasium.

Nelson, who reportedly suffers from a genetic heart defect, was running laps around the gym Oct. 14 when he collapsed, KUTV reports.

Cameras show Nelson being rescued by several school staff members, including Vice Principal Eric Price who had just taken a course on CPR 10 days earlier.

"The pulse was hard to find," Price told the news station. "At the time, the adrenaline kicks in, and you just do what you're trained to do."

A school resource officer also helped Price preform CPR, and they were able to bring Skyler back to life, KUTV reports.

Nelson was immediately rushed to the hospital and was also set to undergo surgery to put a defibrillator in his chest, but expected to make a full recovery.
