Off-duty North Texas deputy killed in car accident

CORSICANA, Texas (AP) — An off-duty North Texas deputy has died after being injured in an auto accident.

Authorities say funeral services for Navarro County Sheriff's Office Deputy James Murray will be held on Tuesday.

Sheriff Elmer Tanner says Murray was off-duty when he was injured in the car accident on Friday near the Navarro-Freestone County line on U.S. Highway 287.

Murray was taken to Navarro Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Murray was a 22-year veteran of the sheriff's office.

Tanner says his agency "is in shock over Deputy Murray's death. Our heart goes out to the family of our fallen comrade."

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
