Houston-area rental prices have increased nearly 3% in the past year, but there are some places where renters are using less of their income on housing, according to a new study.

CashNetUSA put together a list of the most affordable ZIP codes in the USA for renters, including people looking for a place in Houston.

The calculation is based on the average rent cost from the Zillow Observed Rent Index compared to the local median household income.

ZIP codes where the rent was the lowest percentage of the median household income were labeled as the most affordable.

Topping the list of affordability for renters in Houston is the 77094 ZIP code.

The area includes the Eldridge area.

Renters here can expect to spend around 13.88% of their annual income on rent.

The average monthly rent price for the 77094 ZIP code is $1,719.
