Many healthcare facilities not fulfilling rape kit requirement

Texas law requires health care facilities with emergency departments to have staff on hand who can do basic sexual assault exams.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office says not many in our area are actually following through. After she was sexually assaulted, Tiana Hogans had to go to six hospitals to have a rape kit performed. Of the roughly 180 eligible facilities in Harris County, only ten do kits and only four are doing them 24/7.

On the Factor to talk about this is sexual assault survivor Tiana Hogans, Chief of the Sex Crimes Division in Harris County Traci Bennett, and Assistant District Attorney Kristina Roberts.
