I-10 opens, federal disaster requests, mother a suspect in daughters' deaths and a cake boss

TEXAS (AP) - SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Authorities are investigating after a man's body was found burning in a field in San Antonio's east side. Officers responded to a call about a grass fire Thursday night and discovered that the body was on fire. San Antonio Police Department Sgt. Dave Berrigan said that the man's clothes were burned off and there was a strong odor of gasoline in the area. He also said that there were signs that the man, who appears to be in his 20s or 30s, had been burned alive.

HOUSTON (AP) — Texas Department of Transportation says that the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at the Texas-Louisiana border have now been reopened after being closed due to floodwaters caused by storms that had deluged the area. The freeway, one of the country's major transportation arteries, was reopened Friday night.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Governor Greg Abbott is seeking a presidential disaster proclamation for three southeast Texas counties hard-hit by flooding from last week's storms that have led to thousands of evacuations and has destroyed or severely damaged more than 680 homes. A statement issued Friday by Abbott's office says he's written to President Barack Obama to request federal disaster aid for Jasper, Newton and Orange counties.

BENBROOK, Texas (AP) — An award-winning concert pianist who found his two daughters slain in their beds when he arrived at his estranged wife's home in Texas says the "loss of my children will be with me forever." In a statement released Friday evening, Vadym Kholodenko  says he's grateful for the support he's received. Investigators say whether the girl's mother, Sofya Tsygankova, is a suspect in the girls' deaths.
