Houston police search for suspects after 2 killed in sniper-style shooting

Houston Police are searching for two or more suspects after a sniper-style shooting left two dead and two injured Thursday afternoon. It happened on Eastbrook Drive in east Houston around 4:40 p.m.

Police have identified the two killed in the shooting at Jose and Maximo Aguilar, ages 18 and 20.

Police say the gunman and his accomplices got away in what appears to be a black Tahoe after he shot his victims from the roof of a two-story abandoned home.

Police say the group showed up with the intent to have a fist fight, but they were met with a hail of gunfire.

Neighbor surveillance cameras captured the chaos. One camera shows two guys running for cover. Another camera shows one guy sprinting past while someone in red crawls through the grass near the home where the sniper shot at his victims like deer. Others appear to hide from the gunfire behind two cars.

“The neighbor last night said he heard 30 shots,” said David Kimmel, president of the neighborhood’s homeowners association called ETPC.

Police say the shooter used a high-powered rifle with a 30 round magazine. His gunfire left two dead and injures a 23-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

“It just goes to show you how short life is,” said neighbor Alyssa Sepeda who heard the gunshots from down the street. “They shouldn’t have done that.... They could have just talked to somebody. They didn’t have to go and shoot them down.”

Police say a couple of days ago the two groups got into a fight on Eastbrook Drive, which is a cul-de-sac where all three homes are now abandoned after Hurricane Harvey.

“Water was up to the second story of this house,” said Kimmel.

Police say both groups decided to meet there again to finish the fight, but this time a member of one of the groups was waiting for the others atop one of the houses.

Kimmel says none of the people involved in the shooting were from the neighborhood. He says he’s looking at installing a gate to keep non-residents out.

“It’s terrible, but what do you do?” asked Kimmel. “Unless you sit out there on the sidewalk and shoot them as they walk by, there’s not a whole lot you can do.”

Police say they’re looking for two or more suspects—one who is Hispanic. They say the getaway car appears to be a black Chevy Tahoe last seen driving southbound on Maxey Road.
