Initially, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported on X that the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene. However, it was later determined that the vehicle that was on the scene was not the vehicle that was involved. Gonzalez stated a separate vehicle struck the 2-year-old and fled the scene.

Gonzalez added the 2-year-old did have supervision.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating this case.
