The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a residential shooting in the Mission Sierra subdivision in Fort Bend County.

Authorities were called to the scene at 8300 Mossy Creek in Richmond around 6:30 Wednesday evening.

According to Fort Bend Sheriff Troy Nehls, a homeowner came home from work and was parking his vehicle in his garage when a 20-year-old Hispanic male armed with a gun approached him, and allegedly told him to give him his wallet and all of his money. The owner then reached into his vehicle, retrieved a gun, and shot the would-be robber twice.

The man tried to flee the scene, but collapsed nearby. He was confirmed dead.

The sheriff said he didn't know if this was a random attack or if the homeowner was targeted.

Mission Sierra located just west of FM 1464 (Clodine Road) and south of Beechnut.

The sheriff said this should be a warning to others who might consider robbing homeowners at gunpoint.
Nehls said they too could find themselves leaving Fort Bend County in a body bag.

The case will be reviewed by a Fort Bend County grand jury.
