Fourth grade teacher accused of indecency with a child

HOUSTON, Texas - First On Fox 26: A fourth grade teacher for the Houston Independant School District is in trouble. A former student claims he touched her when she was only 9 years old. 59-year-old Jude Obinyan has worked with HISD since 1997. These crimes allegedly occurred while he was working as a fourth grade teacher at The Rice School.

A neighbor of Jude Obinyan didn’t want her face shown. She tells Fox 26 she’s lived next to him for years, and was friendly with his wife.

“I see him. He’s very interactive with his children, you know even with his wife. They go out to functions, and sometimes we meet at mutual functions. So you know he’s a very, I would say, family oriented man," she said.

In July 2018, a former female student claimed Obinyan touched her inappropriately 18 years ago, when she was a student. Our sources tell us this sparked an investigation, which lead authorities to another student who said he touched her as well. He is charged in the most recent incident.

One month later, in August 2018, he was removed from campus. Obinyan has yet to appear in court. His neighbor says he should pay the time if the accusations are true. “Yes, yes he does, and then I’ll be more watchful about my daughter running to him too."

HISD released this statement saying:

“This is a personnel matter and the Houston Independent School District is not commenting at this time.”
