FBI sees increase in 'sextorition' attempts
The FBI is seeing an increase in the number of extortion attempts of a sexual nature—what's known as "sextortion".
It involves people who get an email from someone demanding payment or else they will send compromising information like nude photos to friends, family, even employers. Some scammers even falsely claim to have webcam recordings of victims watching pornography in order to demand payment.
Between July 1 and the beginning of August, the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center received an additional 13,000 complaints about the sextortion scam.
On the Factor to talk about this is victims advocate Andy Kahan.
