Driver and passenger escape from truck fire on South Loop

A  driver and passenger managed to make a quick escape from a raging truck fire on the South Loop last night. The man was driving a pickup truck westbound on the South Loop when it started overheating. He panicked and drove off the side of the freeway, through the brush, and ended up on the feeder road.

The vehicle then quickly became fully engulfed with flames.  HFD responded and took about 15 minutes to put out the fire. The gas tank was also engulfed in flames, making it even more challenging to put out the fire. Both the driver and and the passenger were able to get of the burning truck safely--just in time. Neither suffered injuries.
