Catholics renewing their faith in wake of priest abuse scandal

THE WOODLANDS, Texas (FOX 26) — Devout Catholics are feeling the pain caused by a number of priests in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

No priests from St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in The Woodlands have been accused of sexual misconduct.

"The focus of our parish is helping to pray for the feast of the Church and heal in any way we can so we've set up town halls and a special page on our website to deal with questions and different things as they arise," said church communications director Stephen Lenahan.

The Catholic Church's first concern is the victims.

"Are there still more out there that are afraid to come forward?," asked Lenahan. "We want them to come forward so we can help them the best we can."

While the scandal may have caused some Catholics to question their faith, it has brought strength to many others.

"I'm not going to let the sins and crimes of a few, because it's not only a sin but also a crime, I'm not going to let them steal my faith or my family's faith," added Lenahan.
