Carlos Correa returns to Houston

Local perspective:

This blockbuster trade marks Correa's return to Houston, where he was instrumental in the team's first World Series victory.

Correa is a beloved fixture in franchise history who led Houston to a 2017 World Series crown and batted .277 with 489 RBIs in seven seasons.

Correa signed a three-year deal with Minnesota in 2022. Correa opted out of that contract and agreed to join the San Francisco Giants then the New York Mets, but both deals were negated after his physicals.

He re-signed with Minnesota, where he’s hit .271 while battling several nagging injuries that have had him in and out of the lineup.

Strengthening the Lineup

Big picture view:

Correa's addition is expected to enhance the Astros' lineup as they pursue a strong finish to the season with championship aspirations.

Correa has exclusively played shortstop in his 11-year MLB career but will almost certainly move to third base for the AL West leaders with shortstop Jeremy Peña close to returning from the injured list. The Astros need help at third base with All-Star Isaac Paredes out indefinitely with a hamstring injury.

Despite facing injuries, the Astros currently hold the third-best record in the American League.

The team hopes that Correa can help fill the gaps in the lineup and contribute to their continued success.

With Correa back in Houston, fans are eager to see how his return will impact the team's performance and their quest for another championship.

We will update this story as we get more details on the terms of this trade.
