Arctic blast: Houston warming centers open due to cold weather, Jan. 19-24

The Greater Houston area is expected to experience near freezing temperatures next week due to the incoming Arctic Blast.

On Monday for Martin Luther King Day, the weather is looking very cold with morning lows in the upper 20s and low 30s along with wind chills in the teens!

For Tuesday, the FOX 26 weather team forecast light snow and hazardous ice early in the morning, and it could stay slushy all day with high temps in the mid 30s along with a blanket of rain, sleet and probably some snow.

There is a threat of icy roads.

Where can I find warming centers?

There are various warming centers that will be open across the Greater Houston area listed below.

Harris County Precinct 1:

According to Commissioner Rodney Ellis, these warming centers will be open on Monday, Jan. 20 and Tuesday, Jan. 21. These centers will have water, Meals Ready-to-Eat (MREs), and transportation to overnight warming shelters via zTrip. The Houston Food Bank will also provide hot meals.

On Monday, all YMCA locations will be open to the community during operating hours.

Visitors can use the lobby, charge devices, take classes, visit Child Watch, take a shower, and more. You are asked to present a valid ID upon entering.
