Airman shoots, kills commander in murder-suicide at Texas Air Force base

UPDATE: Official says an airman shot his commander in apparent murder-suicide at  Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Texas authorities said at least two people were killed Friday in an apparent murder-suicide at Lackland Air Force Base as law enforcement rushed to the scene.

"Scene is still active," the Bexar County Sheriff tweeted.

Police found the two dead in the base's Medina Annex and cleared other nearby buildings, Fox 29 reports. Investigators have not identified either of the dead.

Lackland Air Force Base is approximately 10 miles southwest of San Antonio. It's home to a U.S. Air Force boot camp.

In 2009, Fort Hood, which is about 160 miles from Lackland Air Force Base, was the site of the deadliest shooting at a U.S. military base, when 13 people were killed and 31 were injured.
