18-wheeler fire blocks southbound lanes of 59

HOUSTON - The southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway are shut down after an 18-wheeler overturns and catches fire.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the southbound lanes of 59 near 288.

A plume of smoke and flames could be seen coming from the scene.

It's unclear if anyone has been injured in the accident, but Houston Fire Department officials say they believe the driver of the 18-wheeler fled the scene.

TXDOT says it could be several hours before the accident scene is cleared.
