.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 413 AM CDT Wed Jul 15 2015/
(Today and Tonight)
With upper level high pressure centered over Texas, hot and dry
conditions will continue. Temperatures today will mirror those of
Tuesday, with highs in the upper 90s to 100. On Tuesday, San
Angelo picked up its first 100 degree temperature this year, and
it appears it will again see it today. Generally clear skies and
south winds of 10 mph or less tonight will allow temperatures to
fall into the lower 70s.
(Thursday through next Tuesday)
Generally a dry and hot forecast was kept for the next week.
Models agree that the upper level ridge currently centered in
northeast Texas will expand across the southeastern U. S., and
remain in control of our weather through early next week.
Temperatures should fluctuate only a few degrees from day to day,
so we have kept highs mainly in the upper 90s with a few locations
possibly reaching triple digits this weekend or early next week as
the low level thermal ridge intensifies.
A trough will move across southern Canada early next week, with a
weaker trailing shortwave moving through the western U. S., and
into the central plains by Tuesday, with a cold front approaching
the area Monday or Tuesday, and possibly some thunderstorms
affecting our northern counties. The ECMWF is more aggressive and
faster than the GFS with the front, bringing thunderstorms into
Haskell and Throckmorton Counties by Tuesday. However, confidence
is low in a cold front being able to push that far south this time
of year. So, have increased PoPs to around 10%, but will hold off
on mentioning any weather just yet.
