The tropics are heating up with Category 4 Fiona getting Closer to Bermuda with 130 mph winds. Bermuda is under a Hurricane Watch and a Tropical Storm Warning with Fiona passing just to the west late Thursday into Friday. Gaston is still a Tropical Storm in the central Atlantic with no threat to land at this point. Two additional tropical waves in the middle and eastern Atlantic have a low-medium shot for development over the next 2-5 days. Tropical wave in the southern Atlantic is the one we are most concerned about since it has the highest chance to make it into the Caribbean and eventually the Gulf of Mexico over the next several days. If it strengthens, it would be named Hermine.

We may squeeze out a few showers as the pattern shifts, and can look forward to some cooler less humid air by middle of next week. In the Tropics, Invest 98-L bears watching and could soon become "Hermine" as it treks through the Caribbean, but is a long ways away from being a concern for anyone at this time.

A weak cold front is on the way early next week and it may arrive just in time to steer a tropical system away from Texas. At this point, all of our major computer models are showing a hurricane approaching the Yucatan, Cuba and/or Florida next week. So far, Texas looks like a less likely target, but it's something we'll watch closely.

Fiona is still a Category 3 Hurricane pulling away from the Turks and Caicos Islands and will get close to Bermuda late Thursday into Friday as a major hurricane. Tropical Storm Gaston formed in the central Atlantic today but is not a threat to the US. Another tropical wave in the southern Atlantic will likely push into the Caribbean and eventually could make it into the Gulf of Mexico. But we'll have several days to watch it.

In fact, the first day of fall on Thursday could be the hottest day of the week with highs in the upper 90s. The record high is 100. In the longer term, we'll keep our fingers crossed for a cold front which is possible early next week and a developing tropical disturbance moving into the Caribbean.
