Houston Weather: Scattered showers expected for MLK Day

Watch for scattered light showers for this MLK Day holiday along with mild breezes and higher humidity. Our next concern will be the potential for fog overnight and into Tuesday morning, as moist air moves in from the Gulf. Wednesday is shaping up to be a stormy one with the slight chance for severe storms as well. Sunny, cool weather is on the way for the late part of this week.

Be ready for a few showers across Houston on Monday. The rain may provide a brief interruption, but no need to cancel any outdoor plans for the holiday. Tuesday will be very warm right before the next front brings showers and storms to Southeast Texas on Wednesday. The work week will end dry with a couple near normal days follow by more rain chances for this weekend.

Sunday will be warm and breezy, with intervals of clouds and sunshine and a slight chance of a stray shower late. The Monday holiday will have a few showers around, with late-day clearing. Tuesday, record warmth is possible and Wednesday may feature a few strong storms and downpours as a cold front approaches. That will lead to two near-normal days to close out the work week, with rain chances returning over the weekend.

The gradual warm up has begun across Southeast Texas with temperatures only around 50 on Sunday morning. The afternoons will return to the 70s, with some possible record highs on Tuesday. Expect a few showers around Houston for Martin Luther King Day but most of your outdoor activities should be good with only brief interruptions. Widespread rain and scattered storms come with the next cold front Wednesday.

After a chilly start to your Saturday morning, the afternoon will feature quintessential January conditions. Gulf breezes return Sunday, with a cool start for Marathon runners but a warm an breezy finish. Warmth sticks around for a few days, including some light and spotty showers on MLK Monday. Record warmth is possible Tuesday, and then a front will put an end to that bringing storms and a cooldown after Wednesday.
