Tropical Storm Gordon is out in the Atlantic but an area of low pressure of the coast of The Carolinas is much more of a concern. Gordon will struggle and stay out in the Atlantic but heavy rain and the chance for flooding will find its way to the East Coast of the US.

Air Quality Alert has been extended through Saturday evening for Houston and Galveston. Look for a mainly quiet weather pattern to persist the next several days with more late summer heat and little to no rain. Tropics remain active but none of the systems being monitored should impact the Houston area over the next week. Francine should fall apart by tomorrow but will bring a flood threat to parts of the Tennessee Valley & SE U.S. Invest 94-L near the Leeward Islands now has a 0% chance for development. Area off of SE U.S. coast has a medium 40% chance for a tropical system to develop over the next 7 days. Tropical Storm Gordon formed in the central Atlantic today but is expected to remain over water for the next several days.

Post Tropical Francine is still bringing heavy rain to parts of the Tennessee Valley and the southeast. Francine is expected to fall apart and dissipate by tonight. Today Tropical Storm Gordon became the 7th named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season in the central Atlantic. It is running into some dry air and is not forecast to become a hurricane at this point. It should also stay over water for the next several days. Invest 94-L near the Leeward Islands now has a 0% chance for development. Area off of SE U.S. coast has a medium 40% chance for a tropical system to develop over the next 7 days.

Francine has been downgraded to a Post-Tropical Cyclone with 25 mph winds south of Memphis. It still poses a flood threat to Tennesse, Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama, along with the threat for a few tornadoes. Francine should continue to weaken as it approaches Memphis and falls apart. There's a low 30% chance an area of low pressure could develop off the SE U.S. coast over the next few days. Another tropical wave has a low 30% chance for development just east of the Leeward Islands. Tropical Depression 7 in the central Atlantic is expected to become Hurricane Gordon soon but is not a threat to land for now.

As Tropical Storm Francine moves northward through MIssissippi today, we are on the "clean" side of the circulation, so the Houston area will experience please, quiet weather today. We are also at the beginning of a late summer warm-up with several days of low to mid-90s and only isolated showers. In fact, the next couple of weeks will, in general, remain hotter and drier than average for our area. Hurricane Francine brought life-threatening flooding to New Orleans yesterday and winds as high as 105 mph along coastal Louisiana with near 80 mph in New Orleans. The next tropical system has formed very far away in the Atlantic Ocean. Tropical Depression 7 is likely to become Tropical Storm Gordon today, but is not a concern for land at this point.

Francine made landfall in southern Louisiana about 30 miles SW of Morgan City in Terrebone Parish Wednesday evening with 100 mph winds. Francine will gradually weaken over the next few days but still pose a big flood and tornado risk to parts of Louisiana, Mississippi & Alabama. SE Texas weather will be improving to wrap up the week with more sunshine and warmer temperatures.
