Saturday's isolated storms will be the highest rain chances for a while as the start of a heat wave arrives Sunday.

A tropical wave interacting with a broad area of low pressure is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms more than 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for gradual development of this system during the next few days as it moves westward to west-northwestward around 10 mph.

Other than that tropical disturbance we've been tracking this week, there's really nothing else happening across the Gulf, the Caribbean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean, at least not yet. We're still in a time of the hurricane season where it's not at all unusual to have little to no activity, but as we head into the month of August, you can expect that activity to pick up quite a bit. For right now we're still in Saharan dust mode across the tropics and so not much is expected to happen over the next several days.

Tropical moisture moves into the area, so expect scattered afternoon storms today and a few tomorrow as well. Although we may have rain and clouds, the temperature highs will still reach the low 90s.

The tropical disturbance near New Orleans has not strengthened and now has only a slight chance & brief window for becoming a tropical depression. It's mainly going to be a rain-maker for Louisiana the next few days and could bring us a round of storms tomorrow. Whether or not it happens to spin-up into a depression along their coastline, it's effects here would still be scattered storms for Friday.
