As an area of low pressure brings several rounds of severe storms to North Texas into the Midwest, it is pulling winds in off the Gulf for the Houston area. Wind speeds have increased to about 15 mph today and in the 15-25 mph range through Friday. With the winds blowing in from the south, humidity and temperatures will increase, so look for highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid 70s. Gusts could approach 35 to 40 miles per hour closer to the coast Wednesday & a Wind Advisory is in place from 7 AM until 5 PM.

Houston weather: Rainfall moving out, warm temps moving in

Unlike rain that comes from a cold front, this round of storms formed along an upper-level area of low pressure. The result is that we won't feel any cooler after the rain ends. Highs are likely to reach the mid 80s both Saturday and Sunday with heat index values that could reach 90. Rain is still possible for the weekend, but showers should be isolated and short-lived. A system may clip our northern counties Sunday PM bringing an isolated strong to severe storm so stay alert for changes.

A flood watch will remain in effect for Fort Bend, Brazoria, Matagorda, Wharton, Jackson and Calhoun Counties until 7 p.m. unless canceled earlier by the National Weather Service. Expect rain throughout the day Friday with occasional thunderstorms and highs in the mid 70s. Rainfall since Thursday morning has been heaviest in western Fort Bend County and parts of Wharton and Matagorda with 3 inches totals in spots.

While Harris County is not under a Flood Watch, Houston will still receive waves of moderate to heavy rain with drizzly weather in between. Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 PM Friday for Fort Bend, Colorado, Brazoria, Jackson, Wharton, Matagorda and Calhoun counties. Expect wet roads this evening with the chance of a few flooded streets. The chance for heavier rain increases tonight through Friday and could even linger until early Saturday morning. Overall accumulations could range from about 2-3" in Harris County, 2" in Montgomery and potential for 3-5" in a few spots in Brazoria, Fort Bend and all areas south and west of those counties through Friday night.
