Gabrielle remains fairly weak and disorganized today, but could get stronger by the end of the weekend through Monday. It is forecast to become a hurricane Sunday into Monday as it gets closer to Bermuda. It is not a threat to the United States and only poses a slight risk for Bermuda as it passes east early next week. We have only had one hurricane this season so far. Other than Tropical Storm Gabrielle, there will be a couple of tropical waves that could develop in the Atlantic through the end of the month, but our computer models are not showing much to worry about.

The tropics are still remarkably quiet for mid-September, the typical peak of hurricane season. However, there is a pretty impressive tropical wave moving off the west coast of Africa today that models are really latching on to.
