Chris Jones steps down as Skeeters general manager

Sugar Land Skeeters general manager Chris Jones stepped down on Monday.

“That is accurate information,” said Bob Zlotnik, Skeeters owner. “That’s a good way to phrase it.”

Jones, a graduate of Bellaire High School, was named Skeeters GM in July of 2013.

He came to the Atlantic league team from the Lake Elisnore Storm, a Class A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, where he was vice president and general manager.

"I've stepped down as GM," Jones said. "I've taken a position with Elmore Sports Group.

"I'll be president of one of their teams. It'll be announced at the Winter Meetings which one."

Elmore Sports group owns six minor league franchises.

"It's tough to leave any position," Jones said. "This one was a position I had to really look at for me and my family because it's a great opportunity for us. You know sports, you have to move around sometimes to move up."

Zlotnik said he is in the process of interviewing candidates to fill the position.
