Annual 'Year of Joy' ice skating party held at Discovery Green
HOUSTON - It was definitely a day full of happiness and fun for children at the 9th Annual H-E-B Year of Joy Holiday Skating Party which was held on Tuesday at Discovery Green!
FOX 26's Chelsea Edwards served as emcee for the event, which was founded by Joy Sewing, a Houston Chronicle columnist, and a former competitive ice skater and coach. Sewing made history as Houston's first Black figure-skating coach while still in college.
She founded Year of Joy to give children in underserved communities the chance to experience the joys of life through programs such as free ice skating lessons, literacy projects, art and STEM activities, girl empowerment, and more!
