Woman named as deadly parking lot shooting suspect
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - One day after cell phone video captured a woman driving away from a parking lot after a man was shot several times and pistol whipped, a murder charge is pending. The shooting was reported at around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday on Fairdale Lane near Briargrove Drive.
Police have named Veronica Erin Staley, 34, as the suspect in the shooting of 30-year-old Houston resident Aljosa Memovic, who died after he was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center. Officers had found Memovic lying in the parking lot and witnesses told police that Memovic was walking through the parking lot when he was assaulted and shot by a female wearing pink workout clothes. That woman then drove away from the parking lot in a black Hyundai Genesis.
Investigators determined that Staley and Memovic had a previous dating relationship and they believe that the two of them arranged to meet.
After surveillance video of the incident was released to Houston-area media, Staley's relatives contacted authorities and identified her as the person in the video. Police took her into custody at her relatives' northwest Houston home. Investigators also recovered the Hyundai Genesis and the gun believed to have been used in the incident. Staley admitted to her role in Memovic's death and was subsequently charged.
