White nationalist rally canceled in Charlottesville, Va.

The man who organized last year's white nationalist rally in Charlottesville Virginia has dropped his bid to hold another march on the anniversary of the deadly protests.

Jason Kessler had requested a permit from the city to have a rally on August 11, but he unexpectedly withdrew his request this afternoon. He says now he'll focus on a rally in Washington, DC on August 12.

Last year hundreds of protesters with tiki torches marched through the University of Virginia campus, chanting white supremacist slogans. Riots broke out and 32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed after she was struck by a car.
