Vigil held for 3 children in Texas City
TEXAS CITY, Texas (FOX 26) - "We’ve all been here since day one. We’ve never left their side because we know that they need our support,” says Tamera McCardell, who is sisters with Kimaria Nelson’s mother.
Outside the Pointe Ann Apartments in Texas City family, friends and neighbors of Kamaria Nelson and her three kids showed up to support her.
“You know these children, I don’t know them, but I have four kids and they just touched my heart,” says Tanisha VanHorne, who organized the vigil. Her daughter Attavia Milburn says, “It’s a blessing to see how many people came out to support it was awesome."
“I seen it on Facebook when I was at work and I was just blown, just completely devastated. I mean as a community, but not just as a community but as a mom, you know, you can’t imagine what she’s going through right now,” says a family friend Chandra Garms.
Thursday night, Texas City police responded to a welfare call. When they got inside the apartment they found three children who had been stabbed multiple times and suffered from blunt force trauma. Angela Pilot, 5, Prince Larry Brown, 2, and Ashanti Mehmood, who was almost 2-months-old, all died.
Their mother Kimaria Nelson suffered from blunt force trauma and several shots to the head and face and was rushed to the hospital. We are told she is still in stable condition.
That evening, police were still searching for Junaid Hashim Mehmood when he turned himself in. Since then, he has been charged with aggravated assault and capital murder.
Now the family says they are doing everything that can to pray for Kimaria and to let her know she is deeply loved.
“Baby we are here for you,” says her father Taurus Nelson.
“She’s getting better. I just need everybody to keep praying for her,” says her sister Kadeja Hosea.
