Two passengers killed in Fort Bend County two-vehicle crash

RICHMOND, Texas (FOX 26) — Two people were killed after the car they were in was struck by another vehicle.

The crash was reported on FM 359 just north of U.S. Highway 90 in the Richmond area at around 2:40 p.m. Friday. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a Honda Civic turned left across traffic on FM 359, then the Dodge Durango crashed into the back passenger side of the Civic.

FBCSO investigators say the back passenger side door ripped off the car and the two people in the backseat were thrown. Those two passengers did not survive the accident. Another woman was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter and her condition has not been released.

Investigators also say they are wondering what caused this horrific accident on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

"Well, obviously, a lot of the major thoroughfares in Fort Bend County are under construction at this point in time and with that being said, with the additional traffic, definitely, it’s important to keep the seatbelts on and to just pay attention to where you are driving and your surroundings," says FBCSO Sergeant Chad Sparks.

Detectives are still waiting to release the names of two passengers who died until their next of kin have been notified.
