Trump administration adding citizenship question to 2020 census

On the next U.S. census, everyone will be asked, "are you a U.S. citizen?"

Several states are suing the government, arguing it will discourage people from responding and cause the census count to be lower.

The population count determines how much money the federal government sends each community and how many seats they get in Congress.

The question had been included in censuses up until 1950. Immigration rights groups are outraged the president has decided to bring it back.

Glenn Smith from Progress Texas says he believes the question is an intimidation tactic to prevent immigrants from participating in the census.

On the Factor to talk about this is Dr. Gene Proyce from University of Houston Downtown, Cesar Espinosa from FIEL and State Representative Briscoe Caine.
