The man suspected of killing a Harris County Sheriff's Deputy in what investigators call an unprovoked attack will begin his process through the judicial system in a matter of hours.


Shannon J. Miles is charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting Friday night in Cypress of Matthew Goforth a 10-year veteran of the department.  


In Illinois two men from the Houston area are dead - and a woman is hospitalized - after a small plane crashed.  After wrapping up a family weekend, the three took off Sunday morning at the Kewanee airport then crashed into a field.

                67-year-old Steven Murray and 38-year-old Mark Murray, a father and son, were pronounced dead at the scene.


In Austin, a statue controversy continues at the University of Texas. The school removed the Jefferson Davis statue from the shadow of the iconic u-t tower early Sunday morning. The statue had been at the center of months of controversy... And after a summer-long court battle... UT- Austin was allowed to proceed with removing the statues.


President Obama begins his historic trip to Alaska this morning aimed at calling attention to climate change. The president says climate change is already damaging Alaska’s stunning scenery.

                Obama will become the first sitting president to set foot in the Alaska arctic.
