Texas adds 1,600 jobs in July as private-sector employment grows
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Workforce Commission announced Texas added 1,600 nonfarm jobs in July, bringing total employment to 14.468 million jobs.
The state added 165,600 jobs over the past year, a 1.2% annual growth rate that the commission said was 1 percentage point above the national rate.

Texas’ civilian labor force increased by 10,800 people in July, according to the commission.
Private-sector employment grew by 3,300 jobs during July. Private education and health services led the gains, adding 5,900 jobs, followed by professional and business services, which added about 3,600 jobs, and leisure and hospitality, which added 3,400 jobs.

Austin-area employment continues to grow
The Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos metro area had about 1.51 million employed residents in July, up 1,600 from June and 5,800 from the same month last year. The area’s labor force totaled about 1.57 million people. Its unemployment rate was 4.0%, down from 4.1% in June but above the 3.6% rate a year earlier.
Dallas-Fort Worth adds workers over a month
The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro area had about 4.38 million employed residents in July, an increase of roughly 20,900 from June. That was about 1,800 fewer employed residents than in July 2025.
The metro area’s labor force grew to about 4.59 million people. Its unemployment rate was 4.6%, down from 4.7% in June.
Houston-area job market expands in July
The Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands metro area had about 3.72 million employed residents in July, up about 4,400 from June and 6,300 from a year earlier. The Houston area’s labor force reached about 3.92 million people. Its unemployment rate was 5.1%, down from 5.2% in June but above the 4.8% rate recorded in July 2025.
