Teen arrested at South Garland High School for bringing gun to campus

A student was arrested midday Thursday at South Garland High School for bringing a gun on campus.

The 19-year-old was arrested after a school resource officer searched his backpack for a reported stolen phone and found the gun. The teen also had marijuana in his backpack in addition to the stolen phone.

Garland police said the gun was not loaded and there was no ammunition found.

"We share information such as this with families and use this as an opportunity to stress the importance of our students sharing information about anything they see or hear that has the potential to threaten the safety of our campuses, as was done in this case," said a Garland ISD spokesman in a statement. "We commend this student who made a report today and all who report suspicious behavior, ensuring the continued safety of all at our campuses."

A total of three teens were arrested on Thursday in North Texas for bringing guns to school. One student each at Flower Mound Marcus H.S. and Plano West Senior High were arrested.
