HOUSTON(FOX 26) - UPDATE: A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family of Deputy Goforth. That information can be found here.
Harris County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect in the fatal shooting of Deputy Darren Goforth as Shannon J. Miles. Miles is charged with capital murder.
Miles was found through routine research through the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office has not identified a motive in the murder, but does say that Deputy Goforth seems to have been killed because he wore a law enforcement uniform.
Around 8:30PM, Darren Goforth, a Harris County Deputy, pulled into the Chevron Gas Station in northwest Houston, to get gas in his County Sheriff's car. He was in uniform and had just left a car accident scene prior to pulling in to get gas. Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, a male suspect walked up behind the Deputy and shot him in the head and then shot him again as he laid on the ground. The suspect took off in a red Ford Ranger. The Deputy died at the scene. He has been with Harris County Sheriff's office for ten years.
Deputies found a red Ford Ranger truck parked in a driveway of a house a few blocks away, that appeared to be the one on the surveillance pictures.
