Soy foods facility catches fire
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Fire at an east downtown Houston industrial building resulted in major smoke damage to the business.
Firefighters arrived before 11 p.m. Friday to find heavy black smoke coming from the Houston Calco, Inc. facility on Dallas Street near Emancipation Avenue.
A Houston Fire Department district chief says a worker apparently left fryers on when the shift ended and the units caught fire. No workers were in the building during the fire.
Firefighters were able to enter the building and bring the fire under control to prevent the building from being destroyed although the business was left with smoke damage.
Houston Calco, Inc. produces fried soy food products.
