Public warned of jury duty phone scam

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (FOX 26) - The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a phone scam where the scammer claims to be with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Civil Division.
The sheriff's department says the caller will tell the victim they have an outstanding fine or missed jury duty and will be arrested if they don't pay the fine. MCSO says the caller will tell the victim they must put money on a prepaid debit card and take it to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Jail where they will be instructed on how to use the jail kiosk.
Deputies believe the scammer is trying to get money placed on an inmate's financial account to use in the Montgomery County Jail.
MCSO says they never contact people by phone to collect outstanding fines.
