Two people are dead and a deputy and two wrecker operators were injured in two separate fatal crashes at the same scene early Sunday morning.

It happened in the 16300 block of East Freeway in East Harris County.

What we know:

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says deputies were investigating a fatal crash around 2:30 a.m. when a vehicle drove through the scene, crashing into a wrecker and a patrol vehicle.

Deputies say the roadway was shut down and vehicles were being diverted to the service road.

The investigation revealed a silver Cadillac ATS driven by Juan Hernandez was driving westbound at a high rate of speed.

The Cadillac crashed into the wrecker truck parked on the main lanes.

Two wrecker operators were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Hernandez was pulled from the wreckage by deputies.

A deputy was injured while breaking glass and pulling the driver out of the vehicle. The deputy did not need to be taken to the hospital.

EMS arrived on the scene and pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene.

Deputies say Hernandez was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and there were several open alcoholic beverage containers inside his vehicle.

What we don't know:

Deputies have not released any information about the initial fatal crash at that same scene.

There is no information about how many people and vehicles were involved in the initial crash.

This is an ongoing investigation.
