Officers shoot, kill suspect holding ex-girlfriend hostage

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - An officer-involved shooting left a suspect dead at an apartment in west Houston early Friday morning.

Police say they received a call from a woman, who said she saw her female cousin on a FaceTime call being held at gunpoint by her ex-boyfriend in a car.

Officers arrived at the apartment on Winrock near Ella Lee and heard screams. When they broke in, the suspect started shooting at them.

Officers, then, briefly backed out and tried to talk him down.

They moved in when they saw him shoot the woman.

The suspect then pulled a knife on the officers, and that's when a sergeant and two officers shot him.

He died at the scene. The victim, who was shot five times, is expected to survive.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on leave during investigation.
