NWS: Smoke plume to go northwest over Harris County on Tuesday afternoon

The National Weather Service says the smoke plume from the ITC Deer Park fire will likely spread northwest over Harris County this afternoon.

According to the NWS forecast, the plume will initially go to the west-northwest, then spread more slowly north-northwest and north through the afternoon.

The National Weather Service says the plume will be lofted well up into the atmosphere near 5,000 to 6,000 feet.

Air quality is being monitored throughout the Houston area. According to the latest update from ITC at 2:30 a.m., "reading are currently well below hazardous levels."

The fire at the ITC Deer Park facility has been burning for nearly 48 hours. Officials say it could be until Wednesday that the fire burns out.
